A few students in the class have been having a bit of a "no" phase. Does this sound familiar...
- Do you want to wear your blue mitts or your red gloves?
- no!
or
- Pick a spot to eat. Do you want to eat at this table or that table?
- no !
- ummm...I don't think that was one of the options.
Children of kindergarten age are becoming much more independent and want to assert that independence. While becoming their own little person is great this no phase can be frustrating for educators and parents alike. Conscious discipline has a document for helping us through tougher moments. It's appropriately called "You can't make me!" and it's helpfull for understanding your child better as well as how to help them navigate this phase.
Hope it helps!
You can't make me!
