The Universe!

Over the last two weeks, our little ones have been very interested in "The Universe"! And everything else that goes along with it ie. Planets, stars, space ships, aliens etc. They love it.  We have been trying to transform our classroom accordingly. The first day we asked the children what exactly they wanted to know. Their thoughts covered pretty much everything, so we started with the planets.

First we started by painting the plates yellow orange and red. They were making their own individual suns. We asked them what they wanted to do and they came up with the idea of making one big sun. So this picture shows all of our children's work. They painted and labeled all of the planets.

The were curious about the moon. Because to them it looks the same as a planet, but why was it just a moon and not a planet. Here are some of the facts we found about the moon.

Because of our large interest in the planets this week we started a paper mache project. Children took turns in groups in creating the planets in a 3-Dimensional form. This process took us a while because we had to wait for the planets to dry before we could paint any of them. We as of yet do not have a finished product, but it is slowly getting there! And the children are having a blast as we go!
